Welcome!
I am a Doctoral Student in Politics at the University of Virginia, where I am a Graduate Fellow with the Karsh Institute’s Nau Democracy Lab. My work focuses on Latin America, in particular state violence, illegal markets, armed groups, power politics involving China, Russia, the United States, Iran, and Israel, lobbying in foreign policy, the BRICS, natural resource politics, democracy, authoritarianism, and religious rights in the region. I previously served as a Visiting Research Fellow with the Federal University of Bahia’s LASSOS for 2024–25. I also worked as a Fellow for Colombia and Bolivia at the Program on Conflict and Development at Texas A&M University for 3 years prior.
My work has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada at both the master’s and doctoral levels, as well as the Department of National Defence’s MINDS program.
I hold an M.A. in International Affairs from Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School. My M.A. thesis examined the incentive structures driving police lethality in Bahia, Brazil. I also hold a B.A. in International Relations and Latin American Studies from the University of British Columbia. In addition to my native French and English, I speak Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese fluently. I also have proficiency in Russian and Haitian Creole. I am originally from Québec, Canada.
In addition to my academic research, I am a political commentator, consultant, and advocate for peace, justice, democracy, equality, human rights, and good governance in the region. I have worked as a contributor to various outlets, including Le Devoir, The Diplomat, Responsible Statecraft, The Intercept Brasil, RealClearPolitics, Reason Magazine, The National Interest, and La Razón (Bolivia). I was a field reporter in Latin America for three years, spending most of my time in Colombia, Brazil, and Bolivia. My reporting also earned me a Permanent Sanction from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after helping to uncover Russian corruption and disinformation networks in Latin America.
My previous professional roles include consulting for governments in the Americas, serving as a Senior Analyst & Consultant for Latin America at London Politica, Analyst for Public Safety Canada, and Researcher with Florida International University’s Analytic Outreach Program in partnership with the U.S. Southern Command.
I have presented my work at conferences in Latin America, South Africa, Hong Kong, and North America, and have briefed military and policy leaders in Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, and the United States. My research and analysis have also informed strategic dialogues on security, governance, human rights, and geopolitics in the Americas.
Beyond my work, I am committed to mentorship in international politics, academia, journalism, and advocacy work. My goal is to support new students and young professionals as they navigate their own careers in tumultuous times. Please do feel free to contact me; I am always happy to help.
Outside of work, I play and watch soccer religiously, am a casual baseball watcher, a poor movie critic, and enjoy playing the drums to metal music.
